Blue Mammoth lives up to its name: a large hosta with blue leaves, coloured by a fine waxy coating. Planted alone, it holds a shady corner by its sheer bulk.

Give it room as a specimen, or let it form the main structure of a long shady border, with lower plants in front. Our large and giant hostas include more plants of this scale.

Planting and care

  • Plant Blue Mammoth 75–100 cm from its neighbours so the large clump can spread.
  • Water at the base rather than over the waxy blue leaves, and mulch to hold moisture.
  • In shade the colour of Blue Mammoth stays strongest; partial shade is also possible.
  • As the shoots of Blue Mammoth break through in spring, check them for slugs and snails.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.
