Our story
Founded in the Netherlands in 2009.
Dutch Bulbs started in the Netherlands in 2009 with one goal: to make planting material from Dutch growers easier to buy for gardeners and plant lovers across Europe, without a long chain of middlemen. Over the years we opened specialist shops for single plant groups: Amarylia for amaryllis bulbs, Peonita for peony roots and Funckia for hostas.
Our name comes from Funkia, the old name for hostas, given in honour of the German botanist Heinrich Christian Funck. With hostas, choosing the right variety for the right spot matters more than anything else. That is why we focus on one plant group and describe every variety by leaf colour, size, light needs and special features.

Our mission
We help you choose a hosta for the place where it will grow.
Hostas differ widely in size, leaf colour and needs. Our mission is to make that choice simple for beginners and rewarding for collectors: clear information on every variety, honest descriptions and practical advice on planting and care.
- Blue hostas keep their colour best in shade.
- Yellow and gold hostas colour best with some morning sun.
- Thick-leaved varieties are less attractive to slugs and snails.
- Size ranges from miniatures under about 20 cm to giants more than a metre wide.
Our collections group the varieties by the questions gardeners actually ask: by colour (blue, green, yellow & gold, white & cream, variegated), by size (miniature & small, medium, large & giant) and by feature (slug-resistant, sun-tolerant, fragrant, Hosta of the Year).

- Responsibility We share planting and care advice and are there for you after delivery too.
- Respect for your time Clear variety information, honest expectations and dispatch in the planting season.
Why hostas from the Netherlands?
A long tradition of growing perennials.
The Netherlands has an established horticultural sector with specialist growers of perennials and planting material for international trade. Hostas are propagated true to name, grown on until they are strong enough to ship, checked for plant health and sorted and labelled by variety.
The Dutch Flower Bulb Inspection Service (BKD) supervises the trade in flower bulbs and related planting material, including plant-health checks. Dutch-Bulbs B.V. is a registered BKD member.
