Sunshine Glory is new in our range: a large hosta whose chartreuse-green leaves carry a wide creamy-yellow margin. The pale rim around the green gives each leaf a bright, clean outline in a shady bed.
Plant it as a specimen with open space around it, or let it anchor a shady border, where its size gives structure to the lower plants nearby. Hot afternoon sun is too harsh for it. Other recent additions are listed under new hosta varieties.

Sunshine Glory grows large, so leave 75–100 cm from plant to plant. Grown as a specimen, it should have open ground on all sides.
Choose a shaded or half-shaded spot that the hot afternoon sun does not reach. Sunshine Glory works as a specimen plant or as the backbone of a shady border.
They are chartreuse green with a wide creamy-yellow margin. Together, the two light tones of Sunshine Glory brighten a shady part of the garden.
Care & seasons
Hostas need about 4 cm of water a week in summer, roughly 40 litres per square metre including rain. Water deeply at the base of the plant, preferably in the morning, whenever the top few centimetres of soil are dry. New plants, hostas under trees and hostas in pots need checking most often; a mulch keeps the soil moist for longer.

Design & companions
Hostas make an excellent ground cover for shade: planted closely, their leaves meet and suppress weeds from late spring until autumn. Choose medium-sized, vigorous varieties, plant them a little closer than in a border, mulch the gaps until the leaves close, and expect full cover after about three seasons.

A good shade border is built in layers: large hostas and tall partners at the back, medium hostas in the middle and small ones at the front. Repeat a few varieties in groups of three or five, contrast broad hosta leaves with fine ferns or grasses, and add spring bulbs for colour before the hostas wake.
