Cream in the middle and green at the edge, the leaves of Sting give a bright, clean effect, and this medium-sized hosta is practical as well: it resists slugs well and tolerates more sun than most hostas.

Plant it at a path edge, in a border in sun or shade, in a large pot or as a ground-cover group; ferns, astilbes and other hostas can share its bed. Where slugs are a problem, our slug-resistant hostas are a good place to look.

Planting and care

  • Sting grows in partial shade or sun; set the plants about 50 cm apart.
  • Where Sting stands in sun, regular watering keeps its soil from drying out.
  • With good slug resistance it needs less protection, but check the first shoots in spring all the same.
  • Mulch the bed to keep moisture in, especially in brighter positions.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.

Hosta Sting: questions & answers

Is Hosta Sting slug resistant?

Yes, Sting has good slug resistance, which makes it a sensible choice for gardens with many slugs. Still, check the young shoots in spring.

How much sun can Hosta Sting take?

Sting grows in partial shade or sun, so it handles more light than most hostas. In sun, keep the soil moist with regular watering.

What can I plant with Hosta Sting?

Sting looks good with ferns, astilbes and other hostas, and darker leaves around it set off its cream centres.
