Each dark green leaf of Brim Cup is outlined in creamy white, and that bright rim picks the plant out in a dim corner. As a medium-sized hosta, it can play several parts in a shade garden.

Line a path with it, mix it into a shady border, or give one plant a large pot by the terrace. Set out as a group, Brim Cup covers the ground, and the creamy-white edges repeat from one clump to the next. Our variegated hostas include more leaves with a contrasting rim.

At a glance

  • Leaf colour: dark green centre, creamy-white margin
  • Size: medium
  • Light: shade or partial shade
  • Good for: borders, path edges, ground cover, large pots
  • Pack: 2 plants of the same variety, from the Netherlands

  • Shipping: 1 March to 1 July; order all year round

Planting and care

  • Allow about 50 cm for each Brim Cup, the same in a border as in a ground-cover group.
  • Dig compost into the soil before planting so it holds moisture yet drains, and set the crown flush with the surface.
  • Slugs and snails like the first spring shoots, so check Brim Cup after rain until its white-rimmed leaves unfold.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.

Hosta Brim Cup: questions & answers

What colour are the leaves of Hosta Brim Cup?

Dark green with a creamy-white margin. That light rim gives Brim Cup a clear outline, so the plant is easy to see in a shady bed.

How much space does Hosta Brim Cup need?

Plan on about 50 cm per plant for this medium-sized hosta; at that spacing Brim Cup works as an edging, in a border or as ground cover.

Can Hosta Brim Cup be grown in a container?

Yes, a large pot with drainage holes suits Brim Cup well. Water it more often than plants in the ground, because compost in a pot dries out sooner.
