A white margin around each blue leaf gives Blue Ivory a crisp, cool look in shade. This medium-sized hosta also has good slug resistance, a welcome quality in a damp garden.

Use it as an edging, in a border or in a large pot; several plants together cover the ground beside ferns and astilbes. Keep the plants away from hot afternoon sun. For more pale margins, see our white and cream hostas.

Planting and care

  • Plant Blue Ivory about 50 cm apart; at that spacing a ground-cover group closes up in time.
  • Choose shade or partial shade and keep the white edges away from hot afternoon sun.
  • Good slug resistance is a strength of Blue Ivory; only the newest shoots in spring need watching.
  • Grown in a large pot, Blue Ivory needs free drainage and regular watering in summer.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.
