Yellow from edge to edge, the leaves of Tortilla Chip bring warmth to a shaded corner. This large hosta also has fragrant flowers in summer, so it earns its place twice over.
Plant it as a specimen or towards the back of a shady border, with ferns, astilbes or lower hostas growing in front. Morning sun makes the yellow glow more brightly, but afternoon heat does not suit it. More bright foliage is gathered in our yellow and gold hostas.

Yes, in summer Tortilla Chip adds fragrant flowers to its yellow leaves, so a spot near a path or a seat lets you enjoy them.
Partial shade suits it, and a little morning sun makes the yellow leaves brighter, but shield Tortilla Chip from the hot afternoon sun.
Tortilla Chip is large: leave 75–100 cm between plants, or give it a specimen spot with open ground around it.
Care & seasons
Hostas need about 4 cm of water a week in summer, roughly 40 litres per square metre including rain. Water deeply at the base of the plant, preferably in the morning, whenever the top few centimetres of soil are dry. New plants, hostas under trees and hostas in pots need checking most often; a mulch keeps the soil moist for longer.

Propagation
Divide a hosta in early spring, when the pointed shoots are just breaking through, or in late summer as a second choice. Lift the whole clump, cut it with a sharp spade or knife into pieces that each have roots and one to three healthy buds, replant them at the same depth straight away and water well.
