A tetraploid version of Hosta 'Fragrant Bouquet', Sweet Innocence has light green leaves edged in cream. The pale margins catch the eye in shade, and this medium to large hosta is new in our range.
Plant it in a shady border, where it adds weight among smaller plants, or in a large container on a shaded patio. Ferns and astilbes suit it as border partners, as do other hostas. See our new hosta varieties for other recent additions.
Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.
Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.

Sweet Innocence is a tetraploid version of Hosta 'Fragrant Bouquet'. It has light green leaves edged in cream on a medium to large plant.
Allow 50–75 cm between plants in a border. In a large container, one plant of Sweet Innocence is enough.
Yes, Sweet Innocence suits a large container that drains well. Stand the pot in shade or half shade and water often, as containers dry out faster than beds.
Planting
Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Dig plenty of compost or well-rotted manure into the whole bed before planting: it helps clay drain and sandy soil hold water. Avoid ground that stays waterlogged, mulch every spring and feed lightly, because good soil matters more than fertiliser.

Hostas make an excellent ground cover for shade: planted closely, their leaves meet and suppress weeds from late spring until autumn. Choose medium-sized, vigorous varieties, plant them a little closer than in a border, mulch the gaps until the leaves close, and expect full cover after about three seasons.

A good shade border is built in layers: large hostas and tall partners at the back, medium hostas in the middle and small ones at the front. Repeat a few varieties in groups of three or five, contrast broad hosta leaves with fine ferns or grasses, and add spring bulbs for colour before the hostas wake.
