The green leaves of Summer Breeze are edged in yellow, and those bright rims show up well in shade. This medium to large hosta also handles more sun than most, so it can fill a border that gets light for part of the day.
Give it room in a border, where a single clump covers a generous area, or grow one in a large pot on a terrace. In partial shade to sun, its soil should never dry out. Other varieties suited to brighter beds are in our sun-tolerant hostas.

Yes, Summer Breeze handles more sun than most hostas. Anywhere from partial shade to sun will do, as long as the soil stays moist.
Summer Breeze reaches a medium to large size. Plant it 50–75 cm apart in a border, or let a single plant fill a roomy container.
Each green leaf of Summer Breeze has a yellow margin. The yellow rim brightens shady spots and keeps the clump looking fresh in lighter places too.
Planting
Most hostas prefer shade or part shade, but some cope with much more sun if the soil stays moist. Gold and yellow varieties colour best with plenty of light, while blue and white-centred ones fade or scorch first. Even sun-tolerant hostas need afternoon shade in hot, dry weather, and sun tolerance is never the same as drought tolerance.

Care & seasons
Hostas need about 4 cm of water a week in summer, roughly 40 litres per square metre including rain. Water deeply at the base of the plant, preferably in the morning, whenever the top few centimetres of soil are dry. New plants, hostas under trees and hostas in pots need checking most often; a mulch keeps the soil moist for longer.

Planting
Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Dig plenty of compost or well-rotted manure into the whole bed before planting: it helps clay drain and sandy soil hold water. Avoid ground that stays waterlogged, mulch every spring and feed lightly, because good soil matters more than fertiliser.
