Robert Frost pairs blue-green leaves with a clear white margin on a large hosta. The pale outline catches the eye in shade, and the size of the clump makes the contrast hard to miss.

As a specimen it needs open ground around it; at the back of a shady border it can spread behind lower plants such as ferns, astilbes and smaller hostas. For more cool-toned leaves, see our blue hostas.

Planting and care

  • Allow 75–100 cm per plant, as Robert Frost grows into a wide clump.
  • Shade holds the blue-green colour longest; partial shade is fine, hot afternoon sun is not.
  • Dig a wide planting hole, set the crown level with the soil surface and water in thoroughly.
  • When the clump of Robert Frost gets crowded, lift and divide it in early spring.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.
