Orange Marmalade has gold leaves with a green edge, the brightness gathered in the middle of each leaf. In a shady border this medium to large hosta catches the eye from a distance.

Partial shade with a little morning sun brings the gold to its brightest; keep it out of hot afternoon sun. It gives weight to a border, suits a large container and sits well with ferns, astilbes and other hostas. More warm tones are in our yellow and gold hostas.

At a glance

  • Leaf colour: gold centre, green margin
  • Size: medium to large
  • Light: partial shade; morning sun is fine, no hot afternoon sun
  • Good for: borders, large pots
  • Pack: 2 plants of the same variety, from the Netherlands
  • Arrives as: bare-root plants
  • Shipping: 1 March to 1 July; order all year round

Planting and care

  • Space plants 50–75 cm apart in humus-rich ground that never dries out completely.
  • Choose a spot with morning sun and shade in the afternoon for the gold centre.
  • In a large container, give Orange Marmalade free drainage and frequent watering in warm weather.
  • In spring, look over this gold-centred hosta often, since slugs and snails target the young shoots.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.
