Two colours meet in each small leaf of Gypsy Rose: a pale yellow centre and a dark green margin. This little hosta brings a light accent to the front of a shade planting.

Its small size invites a close look, so grow it in a pot on a table, among stones in a rock garden or right at the edge of a bed, away from hot afternoon sun. For other compact varieties, see our miniature and small hostas.

At a glance

  • Leaf colour: pale yellow centre, dark green margin
  • Size: small

Planting and care

  • Allow about 30 cm between plants, or plant Gypsy Rose in a container with drainage holes.
  • The yellow-centred leaves are happiest in shade or partial shade, with no hot afternoon sun on them.
  • In a pot, water regularly so the compost never dries out.
  • After a wet night in spring, inspect Gypsy Rose for slugs and snails on its young shoots.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.

What colour are the leaves of Hosta Gypsy Rose?

They have a pale yellow centre and a dark green margin. That light middle makes Gypsy Rose easy to spot in shade.

How big does Hosta Gypsy Rose grow?

This is a small hosta: about 30 cm per plant in the ground is plenty, and a pot or a rock garden suits Gypsy Rose too.

Can Hosta Gypsy Rose grow in a pot?
