Blue Perfection offers scent as well as foliage: this large hosta pairs blue-green leaves with very fragrant flowers in summer. It is new in our range.
Use it as a specimen, or towards the rear of a shady border close to a path or a seat, so the fragrance can be enjoyed when it flowers. In shade the leaves keep their blue tone longest. Other hostas with scented flowers are collected in our fragrant hostas.

As a large hosta, Blue Perfection needs 75–100 cm between plants. Stand it alone or behind lower plants so its full size can be seen.
It grows in shade or partial shade, and shade keeps the blue-green leaves of Blue Perfection at their bluest.
Varieties
The best blue hostas range from the miniature Blue Mouse Ears to giants such as Big Daddy and Blue Angel. Their blue comes from a waxy coating that is thickest in spring and wears off in strong sun, heat and heavy rain, so plant them in shade or morning sun and water gently at the base. Varieties with a thick wax coat keep their colour longest.

Design & companions
Hostas make an excellent ground cover for shade: planted closely, their leaves meet and suppress weeds from late spring until autumn. Choose medium-sized, vigorous varieties, plant them a little closer than in a border, mulch the gaps until the leaves close, and expect full cover after about three seasons.
