Green leaves with a yellow rim make Valley's Glacier easy to pick out in a shady bed. The plant stays compact, a small to medium hosta that belongs near the front of the garden.

Grow it in a pot, line a path with it or place it at the front of a border, in shade or partial shade. Where space is tight, its modest size is an advantage. More compact varieties are listed in our miniature and small hostas.

Planting and care

  • Plant Valley's Glacier 30–50 cm apart; the shorter distance suits a continuous edging.
  • In a pot, Valley's Glacier needs holes in the base and water whenever the compost starts to dry.
  • Prepare soil rich in humus that holds moisture without becoming waterlogged.
  • Slugs and snails like the spring shoots; with a compact plant such as Valley's Glacier, a quick check is easy.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.
