New in our range, Tootie Mae combines blue-green leaves with a yellow margin. The bright edge lights up a shady corner, while the cooler centre gives this medium-sized hosta a calm base.

Tootie Mae can line a shady walk, fill a gap in a border, grow in a large pot or join others in a ground-cover planting. Shade keeps the blue-green tone at its strongest. Other leaves with a contrasting rim are in our variegated hostas.

At a glance

  • Leaf colour: blue-green centre, yellow margin
  • Size: medium
  • Light: shade or partial shade; the blue tone is strongest in shade
  • Good for: borders, edging, ground cover, large pots
  • Pack: 2 plants of the same variety, from the Netherlands
  • Arrives as: bare-root plants
  • Shipping: 1 March to 1 July; order all year round

Planting and care

  • Space Tootie Mae about 50 cm apart for edging or a ground-cover group.
  • A shaded spot keeps the blue-green of Tootie Mae from fading.
  • For a pot, choose a large one that drains freely and keep Tootie Mae watered through dry spells.
  • Spring shoots attract slugs and snails; check Tootie Mae after rain.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.
