Paisley Border reverses the pattern of Hosta 'Lakeside Paisley Print': its green leaves carry yellow margins. The bright edges pick out every leaf in a shady spot.
This medium-sized hosta can edge a walk, fill out a shady border or grow in a large pot, and a group of several makes good ground cover. Plant ferns, astilbes or other hostas nearby. It is one of many two-coloured varieties among our variegated hostas.
Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.
Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.

Paisley Border is its reversed form, so the colours sit the other way round: green in the centre of the leaf, yellow at the margin.
Paisley Border is medium-sized. Set the plants about 50 cm apart, whether they edge a path or cover the ground.
Yes, provided the pot is large and has drainage holes. Water Paisley Border regularly so the compost stays moist.
Care & seasons
Hostas need about 4 cm of water a week in summer, roughly 40 litres per square metre including rain. Water deeply at the base of the plant, preferably in the morning, whenever the top few centimetres of soil are dry. New plants, hostas under trees and hostas in pots need checking most often; a mulch keeps the soil moist for longer.

Planting
Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Dig plenty of compost or well-rotted manure into the whole bed before planting: it helps clay drain and sandy soil hold water. Avoid ground that stays waterlogged, mulch every spring and feed lightly, because good soil matters more than fertiliser.

Design & companions
Hostas make an excellent ground cover for shade: planted closely, their leaves meet and suppress weeds from late spring until autumn. Choose medium-sized, vigorous varieties, plant them a little closer than in a border, mulch the gaps until the leaves close, and expect full cover after about three seasons.
