American hosta growers voted Lakeside Paisley Print Hosta of the Year 2019. This medium-sized hosta has yellow-green leaves with dark green edges, and the pale centre appears to glow when the light is low.
Line a shaded path with it, give it a place of honour in a border or a large pot, or let several plants cover the ground; ferns, astilbes and other hostas suit its yellow-green leaves. See other award winners in our Hosta of the Year collection.
Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.
Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.

Yes, it won Hosta of the Year 2019, a title given by American hosta growers.
Plant it in shade or partial shade, sheltered from strong afternoon sun. A path edge, a border, a big pot or a ground-cover group: Lakeside Paisley Print works in each.
They are yellow-green in the centre with a dark green margin. In shade, the pale centre of Lakeside Paisley Print seems to light up.
Care & seasons
Hostas need about 4 cm of water a week in summer, roughly 40 litres per square metre including rain. Water deeply at the base of the plant, preferably in the morning, whenever the top few centimetres of soil are dry. New plants, hostas under trees and hostas in pots need checking most often; a mulch keeps the soil moist for longer.

Planting
Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Dig plenty of compost or well-rotted manure into the whole bed before planting: it helps clay drain and sandy soil hold water. Avoid ground that stays waterlogged, mulch every spring and feed lightly, because good soil matters more than fertiliser.

Design & companions
Hostas make an excellent ground cover for shade: planted closely, their leaves meet and suppress weeds from late spring until autumn. Choose medium-sized, vigorous varieties, plant them a little closer than in a border, mulch the gaps until the leaves close, and expect full cover after about three seasons.
