Spear-shaped leaves with a yellow centre and a green margin: that is Golden Spear, a medium-sized hosta bred in the Netherlands and new in our range. The pale centre brightens a shady spot.

Its spear-like outline looks crisp along a path or in a large pot, and a group set out together covers the ground. Give it shelter from hot afternoon sun. For other leaves with a bright centre, browse our yellow and gold hostas.

At a glance

  • Leaf colour: yellow centre, green margin

Planting and care

  • Plant Golden Spear about 50 cm apart; a line of them makes a neat edging along a path.
  • Shade or partial shade, screened from hot afternoon sun, suits the yellow centres.
  • Set the crown flush with the soil and water well after planting.
  • Young shoots of Golden Spear are at their most vulnerable to slugs and snails in spring, so check them after rain.

Our hosta planting guide covers every step, from soil to winter.

Covered by our 100% growing guarantee: if a plant does not grow although you followed our care advice, we replace or refund it.

How much sun can Hosta Golden Spear take?

Not much: shade or partial shade is best, and the yellow centres of Golden Spear should be kept from hot afternoon sun.

How do I use Hosta Golden Spear?
